Indonesian Government Blocked YouTube?

Maybe this news is a little late, but this is weird. Indonesian government had blocked the YouTube website yesterday. I don’t know will it be just temporarily or permanently blocked. According to my knowledge, the Indonesian government doing this because of the broadcasting of the film “Fitna”, an anti-Islam film created by people from the Netherlands that telling story about the relation between the Holy Quran and terrorism. I myself haven’t watched this movie.

Because of this action of the government, Indonesian people have made a petition on the OnlinePetition website asking the government to unblock YouTube and the other blocked website. Yes, the other website, it’s surprising that they blocked MySpace and RapidShare as well. Maybe you would like to sign the petition to unblock that website to.

I don’t know why the Indonesian government decided to take this kind of action only just because of one film. Is it because Indonesian people never criticize every single thing so they will accept information without filtering it? I don’t think so. I believe that Indonesian people are not stupid. Do the government think that YouTube is useless while it contains a lot of educational stuffs like Discovery Channel videos and more?

Update: April 10th, 2008
It’s weird. This morning, 5 o’clock, I can go to all those three blocked website. Have the Indonesian government unblocked those sites now?
