Stop Spam, Read Books

When you read “stop spam” you might think that “yes we should do” because spam is a crime in the cyber world, at least do I think so. And while you read “read book” you might say “we must” because people said that books are the source of knowledge. Then why are these things came together? What are the connection between “stop spam” and “read books”. Actually those are not my words, that’s the motto, or what it is, of reCAPTCHA, an anti spam tool. Why “read book” was there in the motto, because this tool makes you read to stop spam. This service has bunch of vocabulary which both a scanner or a computer won’t read correctly and only can be cracked by humans. You have to crack them before you submit your post in a forum or comment in a blog. See the image below for an example what this tool would look like.

This site supports WordPress, MediaWiki, and phpBB officially, I think. But if you are using another kind of CMS, you still can use this service because there are some people that have given their contribution so you can use reCAPTCHA in Drupal, vBulletin, Joomla, and so on. Besides, if you are a web programmer, this site provides the resources for PHP, ASP, Phyton, and so on. All you have to do are register your domain and implement the plugin or the code in your site. Check their homepage for more information.

Well, this will stop spams in your site and forums, at least automated spam. This can’t stop human spamer for sure, so at least, this will reduce spams you’ll get. You can set your blogs and forums “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” off and no worries about automated spam. Then why you still have to register to post your comments on my blog, its not because I don’t believe in this service, but because I also need protection from human spammer as well.

Update: February 17th, 2008
I let go off the “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” now because I think you will be tired of spamming me manually, except you are crazy!!! But I would be pleased if you register your self on my site…
